I suppose pgcc is buggy, but XEmacs-20.3-b27 does compile with pgcc-970924. I've got Email from another beta-tester confirming this after I posted my success. There was another worrying thing as I was not able to compile a certain file on the system here at the lab but could on the PC I have at home. The other beta-tester also confirmed that he was able to compile all files. PGCC isn't perfect yet but the benchmarks were pretty promising. (The last sentence worries me because I think I've just stepped on a trapdoor called "benchmark".) > Hajime> The most unexpected thing was that I also have XEmacs > Hajime> problem on a debian bo system except for ldso-1.9? and > Hajime> just the libraries of glibc-2.0.5c. I'm checking which > Hajime> packages are installed but... > > This is _not_ unexpected, IMHO. You're doing bleeding edge stuff. Yes, but what I want to know is what exactly is going wrong. What's more worrying is that I get exactly the same problem with a totally bo(libc5.4.33) system. I'm hoping that people will be able to upgrade to debian-2.0 and not have to do complete reinstalls. > You're not doing very much bleeding that I can see; count your > blessings, man. I do. Actually even the kernel is compiled with pgcc-970924. So every keystroke is a gamble (talk about thin ice). > Anyway, I'm out of my depth; I have not been able to get a hamm-based > system running. I wish you luck, but I don't think the problems > you're experiencing are "unexpected." Your right. I'll better chose my words better next time. > You will be a very good systems hacker when you get done with this :-) We--ll I don't now about that... I'll just keep it as "just a good hack" level. If I solve it that is... :) Hajime Saito Next TLUG meeting is Saturday October 11, 1997 ----------------------------------------------------------------- a word from the sponsor will appear below TWICS - Japan's First Public-Access Internet System. www.twics.com info@example.com Tel:03-3351-5977 Fax:03-3353-6096
