Re: Re[2]: Am I unreasonable?

I'm replying to the list because my recomended solution applies to
anywhere, not just Tsukuba, and particular applies to people
traveling.

I wish .... What I plan to do is use Global Online (a provider I've
used for a while) and their All-Japan service. The way this works is
you sign up through your provider with a separate company which
provides dialup access throughout Japan. You dial their local access
number, then get a PPP (presumably telnet will work too) connection
through to your ISP. Where they don't have a local number, you get a
0120-free-dial access. There's some penalty for using the free dial
number, but basically it reduces the cost of a connection to Tokyo by
80% or more.

Of course, through the U I get good Internet access, but strangely
enough I get terrible access to anything that's not on the SINET (I've
bitched about it recently on TLUG). So it's useful to have another
provider on the side. GOL also has excellent international access.

I can't read the company's name off the fax, but you might be able to
find out who it is from http://www.gol.com/.

GOL is still 35,000/year, so TWICS's 20,000/year beats that (Craig
Oda, do you guys provide this service?)

The rest is interesting only to Internet hackers....

Well, a ping to ccm.intel.co.jp (ccm.ijkk.intel.com is just a mailbox,
I assume they're the same machine, they have the same MX records)
produces a very interesting result:

bash$ ping -c 10 ccm.intel.co.jp
PING ccm.intel.co.jp (198.175.103.120): 56 data bytes

--- ccm.intel.co.jp ping statistics ---
10 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss

And a traceroute was even more interesting:

bash$ traceroute ccm.intel.co.jp
traceroute to ccm.intel.co.jp (198.175.103.120), 30 hops max, 40 byte packets

If there's a firewall in place, and I wouldn't blame Intel one bit for
having one, it should say "unreachable", not give an infinite loop.
Intel's network management leaves a lot to be desired, I should say.

6 weeks to 6 months is normal. :-( How long have you been waiting? I
sent my computer Nippon Express air, $250 nan'bon for a 15" monitor,
large tower, medium size laser printer, plus one box of etc, including
insurance premium for $10,000.
