sendmail on dialup LAN

I'm using Linux as the SMTP mail server on a dialup LAN to
Internet connection using an Ascend P50 router. The Linux
box is running sendmail with from the RedHat 4.0 distribution.

I have disabled the Ascend P50 call back capability for
security reasons. When I want to check the mail on my
local LAN I use sendmail as the mail transport agent and
procmail as the mail delivery agent. My mail is stored
on an ISP's mail server. The problem occurs when I want to
read my mail. I have to wait for the sendmail on the remote
ISP server to start sending mail to my Linux server. This
occurs a few minutes after the dialup LAN connection
is established. I want to force sendmail on my system to
check the mail for my domain (farm.twics.com) on demand without
having to wait for the remote server to send the mail. The
few minutes delay is an inconvenience. I have several sendmail
books which I have not read yet. I was just wondering if anyone
knew the answer off the top of their heads?

Regards,
Craig
