I'm decided that xjdic22 is very cool. :-) I have archived a binary distribution for TLUGers to play with. ftp://twics.com/unix/linux/utils/text/xjdic22.bin.tar.gz This is the README.tlug file TLUG xjdic22 Binary Distribution -------------------------------- October 20, 1996 This is a binary distribution of xjdic2.2 compiled with Andrew Howell's patch (xjdic22.patch). The binary is being archived as a result of three seperate TLUG (http://www.twics.com/~tlug) members complaining that they had difficulty compiling the source code without the patch. The xjdic22sa file will look in your /usr/local/lib/xjdic/ directory for these files: [root@example.com xjdic22]# ls /usr/local/lib/xjdic/ edict enamdict kanjidic.xjdx radkfile xjdic22sa* edict.orig exjdxgen* kanjstroke romkana.cnv xjdxgen* edict.xjdx kanjidic radicals.tm vconj The edict, kanjidic, enamdict, and *.xjdx files are not contained in this distribution. You can get the dictionary files from Monash or a mirror site. A listing of mirror sites is available on my web page http://www.twics.co.jp/~craig/linux-nihongo/docs/ enamdict is a listing of Japanese names of both people and places. This dictionary has proven invaluable when reading e-mail or Internet web pages. To install: # cp .xjdicrc.skel ~/.xjdicrc # cp exjdxgen kanjstroke radicals.tm radkfile /usr/local/lib/xjdic # cp romkana.cnv vconj xjdic22sa xjdxgen /usr/local/lib/xjdic To install the dictionaries: 1) download edict, kanjidic, (and I recommend enamdict) 2) cp edict kanjidict enamdict /usr/local/lib/xjdic 3) add enamdict to edict # cat enamdict >> edict 4) make index files # xjdxgen /usr/local/lib/xjdic/edict # xjdxgen /usr/local/lib/xjdic/kanjidict There has been an intriguing discussion on TLUG about Japanese support over the past few weeks. I'm trying to record some of it in my linux-nihongo web site (http://www.twics.co.jp/~craig/linux-nihongo.html) -- Craig ------------- Craig Oda craig@example.com TWICS - Japan's First Public-Access Internet System, TWICS - IEC Building, 1-21 Yotsuya, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo 160 JAPAN Main Reception: 03-3351-5977 Fax: +81-3-3353-6096 Customer Service: 3351-5481 Corporate Sales/Support: 3351-8452 ----------------------------------------------------------------- a word from the sponsor will appear below ----------------------------------------------------------------- The TLUG mailing list is proudly sponsored by TWICS - Japan's First Public-Access Internet System.
