I have Gmail set to use the "default coding for the language", and if it thinks it's Japanese it uses ISO-2022-JP. Since I only included kanji it decided it was Chinese. There are no kana in Big5. > Does "Big5" mean Chinese? If so, then the problem is that your e-mail > client told mine that your message was in Chinese. Is that something you > can change? Yes, Big5 is the olde Taiwanese character-set/coding system. I should have made sure that my email went out in ISO-2022-JP, but I do not think it would have made much difference. When I wrote the email it showed that Chinese glyph before I sent it. At no stage was FF aware that it was email. BTW, now that I have deleted those ttf-wqy* fonts, several of my regular WWW pages have changed quite radically. The biggest change was the Kenkyusha online dictionary, which I use a lot. It went back to a rather clear gothic font which (for me) vanished two distros ago. Interesting.
