Thank you everyone for responding.

What I ended up was getting four surge protectors, one for each outlet 
where I plug in my computers and associated peripherals. I don't really 
need surge protectors on two of them, but I figured why not.

The computers and monitors plug into two power bars that have a ground 
wire each. So I bought some extra ground wire from Tokyu Hands and 
connected them up to one of the grounded outlets on the other side of 
the room.

Between the surge protectors, the ground wire, and - perhaps most 
importantly - the off site backup, I think I'm ready to survive most of 
what might come at me.

I hope I didn't just jinx myself by saying that.
