I've been following this thread for the last few days and just wanted
to add my .02 to it.

I purchased an X61 from Lenovo a few years ago and have been truly
disappointed with the quality of the machine. I picture IBM laptops
as reliable, well-built, damn-near unstoppable machines. Thinkpads
used to just live on forever, broken screens, missing keys, you name
it and they're still kicking.

I had to send this one back for heat problems twice -- the fan broke
down and then there was some other heat-related problem. It eats
batteries at a HP-like rate requiring you to buy a new one every other
year if you'd like a usable machine (I'm very careful about my
charging habits to try and maintain battery usability for as long as
possible). Overall the quality of the machine feels much lower than
what I'm used to for IBMs.

With the change from IBM to Lenovo, I would generally recommend
looking elsewhere. You're buying a Dell-quality machine at Sony or
Apple-like prices.
