TLUG,

I have a Windows machine at home (ick!) and was able to test the scanner
on that. I got the same colour streak problem, so it looks like the
hardware has broke down. Coincidentally, it was at the same time as a
software change.

Oh well. Looks like there's no settings solution, I just need a new scanner.
