Being one of those who got addicted to tortoise myself (after using
the CLI interface for 5 years or so), i have to say, that tortoise is
a great help to simplify the job of managing code. Heck we got even
those people who hardly ever dared to commit something during the VSS
days to commit at least once a week.

But there are still a lot of tasks that tortoise cannot do, and
i've to open up a cygwin shell.

Shouldnt be a problem. We (another we ;) are running parallel git
repos for MPlayer and FFmpeg, which have iirc something in the range
of 20k and 30k commits.

The true CS students do not need to know how to program.
They learn how to abstract the process of programming to
the point of making programmers obsolete.
