Sotaro, Shawn, Curt, Alexi, Martin, Thank you all for responding. Seems Amarok only uses utf-8: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/amarok/+question/20308 Which should be fine, because Android seems to be exclusively utf-8 as well. Looking up encoding issues on the web, most people have problems with tags that are *not* utf-8, like this guy trying to get Chinese characters to display: http://www.yuan.se/?p=60 Easytag reads the Japanese text just fine... I used eyeD3, and piped the results into a text file, which I then opened in OpenOffice and used utf8 to read it... The Japanese comes out fine. Although opening it in Gedit doesn't read it so well. So I *think* everything is in UTF-8. Any suggestions on where things might not be as they seem? OpenOffice read of eyeD3 output: #[1m#[32m04_Japan_Tittle.mp3#[0m #[32m[ 4.58 MB ]#[0m ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #[1mTime: #[0m04:03 MPEG1, Layer III [ ~155 kb/s @ 44100 Hz - Joint stereo ] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ID3 v2.4: #[1mtitle#[0m: 嗚呼ハルカリセンセーション #[1martist#[0m: Halcali #[1malbum#[0m: ハルカリベーコン #[1myear#[0m: 2003 #[1mtrack#[0m: 4 #[1mgenre#[0m: Pop (id 13) #[1mComment#[0m: [Description: ] [Lang: eng] Japanese #[1mFRONT_COVER Image#[0m: [Size: 76106 bytes] [Type: image/png] Description: Gedit read of same output (Note # characters replaced by ): [1m[32m04_Japan_Tittle.mp3[0m [32m[ 4.58 MB ][0m ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [1mTime: [0m04:03 MPEG1, Layer III [ ~155 kb/s @ 44100 Hz - Joint stereo ] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ID3 v2.4: [1mtitle[0m: 嗚呼ハルカリセンセーション [1martist[0m: Halcali [1malbum[0m: ハルカリベーコン [1myear[0m: 2003 [1mtrack[0m: 4 [1mgenre[0m: Pop (id 13) [1mComment[0m: [Description: ] [Lang: eng] Japanese [1mFRONT_COVER Image[0m: [Size: 76106 bytes] [Type: image/png] Description: -- Dave M G http://tlug.jp/mediawiki/index.php?title=User:Dave_M_G
