I've been lurking on tlug for years. Maybe I'll try to make it out to a
nomikai and say hi, although i won't be able to make the 5th.
I've installed "Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop" since it came out and been fairly
pleased.

"Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop" has Pidgin 2.5.2 after the software update with
the default repository. Would upgrading your Ubuntu to 8.10 be easy
enough?
