I may be a little naive here, since I find these "automagic" systems far
too complex to bother spending time understanding how they work, but
can't you just tweak your config file to load the module?

Do you see a "can't connect" message? If so, it's not running. You can
probably also just try "telnet some.host 8080" and see if it connects.
