thank you for pointing to font substitution. I get more general idea
now. However, according to this link, font substitution brings some
issues too:
"it can lead to inconsistent visual appearance"
and
"font substitution may be critical to scripts not well supported by a
large font inventory having the required Unicode range"

Which moves this solution below "find proper font" solution on my
preferences list.

I have msttcorefonts package installed and I have 
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/msttcorefonts/ directory populated by some
files. 

Unfortunately I do not understand the "use Arial" part. How do I do it
with uxterm [1] ? 

[1] please see my reply to Steve Turnbull email in this thread too. It
seems to me that I have the same problem there.
