OK, then WINE cannot help you, I think. If the device is not supported in Linux, you will probably have to resort to Xen or VMware or something.

Silly me. I thought I could just keep adding hardware descriptions until I got something that fit. The Hagiwara web site _does_ say that their embedded products are made to mimic CDs or to use the same memory addresses as CD drives (my ability to read / understand Japanese electrical engineering terms has never been good), which probably explains why Linux saw a mass storage device.


VMware is 'way down my list of things that I have to learn, but it's on the list.

In the meantime, my regular desktop / Skype dual system phone (Pioneer) is recognized. It's just a pain to shift the USB plug between boxes.

Now, the device may be supported in Linux. Have you done all the
requisite Googling for "<device_name> linux"?

Does not appear to be the case. It likes W2K and WIN XP. It's a great accessory for travel (e.g. there's a spot n my laptop bag that's exactly the right size for it). Laptop plugs into the hotel LAN and the handset plugs into the laptop and we're off ...
