Yeah, it is probably best to quote all email addresses, so you are not
surprised by things like this.

That is why I quote all variables in shell scripts, e.g.

cp "${HOME}/${PICS_DIR}/${date}/"* "${HOME}/mnt/flickr/sets/${set}/"
