It always was merely a license to use the software that you bought. Just because I have a shiny original Windows 2000 Pro CD doesn't mean that I own Windows 2000 Pro. What I *do* own is the physical medium (the CD-ROM) on which the O/S was transported to my machine, and a licence to use that O/S. What's new now is that you no longer own the license.
