Welcome to Tokyo and to TLUG! Please join us next Saturday for the technical meeting and resulting nomikai. :)

Is there like a Linux Store somewhere in Akihabra or
somewhere else in Tokyo?

Used to be. I'll let the Aki experts in the group field this one.

Or can you recommend a Laptop or at least a Laptop
manufacturer?

I can recommend the MacBook quite enthusiastically. Dual-boot Mac OS or simply wipe the disk and drop Linux on there. All the hardware is supported quite well.

I have also had pretty good luck with Dell stuff; I am writing this
email on an Inspiron D410.

But the best advice I can give you is to burn a Knoppix or Gentoo or
Ubuntu LiveCD (pick the distro that you know the best) and take it
with you to the computer store. Make it clear to the salesperson that
they have no chance of making a sale unless they allow you to reboot
the 'top off the CD and test all the hardware. Some salespeople will
not わかる, but others will let you have at it.

At home the distro I was using, was Arch Linux, but I
might try a different one, since I got so used to it -
for widen my horizon ;).

Go for Gentoo, mate. I hear the developers are Super Nice Guys. ;)
