Re: [tlug] installing Ubuntu on Panasonic CF-R4

Hi Bruce,

I have a CF-R3, which is quite similar to your model. Regarding the
Ubuntu thing, I don't want to sound a troll, but I had the same
problems with Ubuntu setup partitioner once and I can't believe they
haven't fixed it on Feisty. The problem is that it assumes you are
going to do all the partitioning using its tool, and making it accept
your own custom layout is almost impossible. Maybe it's just me, maybe
someone more experienced with Ubuntu may help you with this issue, but
what I did was to install Debian instead, which is not the solution
you're looking for. If Ubuntu has a console-based installer, use it
instead of the default one.

After you finish your installation, take a look at this guide:
http://www.laohu.co.uk/r4/
It's a bit outdated, but it still contains some valuable tips on how
to customize your distro for your new hardware.

By the way, maybe this deserves a new topic, but when I got this
laptop, it came preloaded with WXP and a lot of trash apps and
propaganda from Panasonic. Therefore, I simply decided to erase
everything and install Linux on it. But the problem is that the HPA
partition also went to oblivion. Do you know if there is anyway to
recover it? I know I should contact Panasonic, but I'm pretty sure
they'll charge for my dumbness. I don't need Windows, but in case I
decide to sell this machine, I'd rather if it would include all the
original software.
