Thank you for responding.
Just to make sure, the gconf key /apps/nautilus/desktop/volumes_visible is set to true right?
Had to look on Google to figure out that I checked this by running "gconf-editor".
With that, I was able to confirm that, yes, /apps/nautilus/desktop/volumes_visible is switched on.
