Please don't top post--that is, don't post above the letter you're answering. Also, please make an attempt to trim the parts of the previous email that we don't need anymore. Both these things are considered standard on most technical lists. The best way to post is inline--that is, answer point A under point A and point B under point B. This way, it's more like a conversation. > As you said "However, it might not work in the default gnome terminal." > I am using the same gnome terminal. Again, not having used RH for awhile, I can't be 100 percent sure, but most of the time, these things will work in uxterm. Sometimes, (this is just one of those odd things that I've never bothered to troubleshoot) if you set the environment stuff (the LC_CTYPE and the like) in a gnome terminal, it doesn't carry over to the next terminal. So, let's take this from the beginning. I would stick with scim-anthy if at all possible. I would open a terminal. See how RH labels UTF-8. locale -a | grep ja_JP I think it will return, among others ja_JP.utf8 If it does, follow the below instructions. If it gives something like ja_JP.UTF-8 use that instead. Make sure that you have scim. which scim See if scim is running pgrep scim You should get back 4-5 lines of numbers. If you get nothing back then do scim -d You should see that it is starting up. If it does so, confirm that it's running with pgrep scim again. If you have that, from a gnome-terminal type uxterm A different terminal will open up. In that terminal, type the following export XMODIFIERS='@example.com=SCIM' export LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.utf8 Open another uxterm In that one, make sure that these environment variables have been exported. echo $XMODIFIERS $LC_CTYPE You should get back the @example.com=SCIM and the ja_JP.utf8 Hit ctl+space, and see if a little widget opens up on the lower right. If it does, it means scim-anthy is working. The little widget, if it doesn't show hiragana or kanji there, should, if you click on it, give you the opportunity to choose Japanese. Please perform all of these steps and let us know the results. Remember, use inline posting, that is, tell us what happened in step one below step one, etc. -- Scott Robbins PGP keyID EB3467D6 ( 1B48 077D 66F6 9DB0 FDC2 A409 FA54 EB34 67D6 ) gpg --keyserver pgp.mit.edu --recv-keys EB3467D6 Spike: I'm bad! It's just I can't bite anymore, thanks to you wankers... Bye the bye, if you're trying to kill her... (gives Riley two thumbs up)
