I haven't tried Gentoo on that machine. 

I'll look around for a LiveCD and report back to the list.  
The ones that didn't work were Edgy Eft, Arch, Frugal (originally based
on Arch, IIRC) and KateOS (based on Slack, at least in its beginnings.)

UPDATE.  Gentoo did work without any effort on my part.  So far, only
Gentoo and FC6 work with the Matrox G200 card in xorg-7.1.
