I have also attached a PDF version of the job spec for people who like pretty tables. ;) Job Title: Software Development Engineer Summary Description: Software Development Engineer, Amazon.co.jp Anywhere Amazon.co.jp is looking for a passionate, hard-working, and talented software engineer interested in developing transactional software applications and support tools for our fast-growing mobile device commerce business. Candidate will work on location in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan as part of a global Amazon Anywhere team based in Seattle, U.S.A., working internally with software engineers, program managers, and business owners, and externally with the Japanese keitai industry business and technical partners. Key tasks and initiatives include: developing new user applications and internal tools specific to mobile devices, supporting existing Amazon technologies on the keitai platform, building support for next-generation mobile technologies, and taking broad ownership and involvement in the Amazon.co.jp mobile business. Qualified candidates should have experience developing highly scalable, reliable, and complex transactional systems on-time and on budget. Should be extremely strong in Perl, XML, XSL, and UNIX systems. Experience with C/C++, Java, XHTML, object-oriented design and analysis, relational databases, SQL, and transactional systems, and software experience with mobile devices is a plus. Must have good communcation skills in written & spoken Japanese and English. An ability to assume responsibility, and achieve results in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment is critical. Essential Functions: # % of Time Description of essential functions 1 100 Develop new features for our keitai site, working with the business owners on requirements definition Essential Skills: 1. Ability to learn new technologies quickly and work independently 2. Extensive working experience with Perl, XML, and transactional systems 3. Working knowledge of C/C++, JAVA, XSL, XHTML, and SQL 4. Must have extremely good English skills (will need to communicate about technical matters with Seattle based engineers on a regular basis and report to an English speaking manager) 5.
