[tlug] xorg 7.1 and mga card (and possibly Gateway monitor)

I figured I would ask here, as I know there are some Gentoo users, and
probably some folks using Edgy Eft as well. (As well as FC6)

Has anyone had issues with xorg-7.1 and an mga card? I have a pretty
vanilla (and old) Matrox G200 8MB and fairly unesoteric Gateway LCD
FPD1510 monitor.

Last week I was playing around with various distros, and found that xorg
7.1 didn't play well. For instance, in trying to install FC6, it would
detect the card and monitor, say it was starting X server and I
would then get an input signal out of range message. A couple of other
distros using Xorg simply gave me blank screens.

I stuck an ATI rage 128 which has always worked for me with the generic
ATI driver in there and tried that. It would do a little better,
getting me into a kaleidescopic X and freeze. :)

At this point, I'm not sure if my problem is with my monitor or with
these two cards. The ATI card works in a Slack install with xorg 6.9,
the Matrox works with everything through xorg-7.0. (The monitor as
well.)

At this point, I don't have time or inclination to research it deeply
enough to give them a bug report, however, thought I'd ask if anyone has
used xorg-7.1 with either the abovelisted cards or monitors, and have
they had problems?

Thanks for any input.

Buffy: What do you want?
Spike: I told you. I want to stop Angel. I want to save the world.
Buffy: Okay, you do remember that you're a vampire, right?
Spike: We like to talk big... vampires do. I'm going to destroy the
world.
That's just tough-guy talk. Strutting around with your friends over a
pint of
blood. The truth is, I _like_ this world. You've got...dog racing,
Manchester
United. And you've got people. Billions of people walking around like
Happy
Meals with legs. It's all right here. But then someone comes along
with a vision.
With a real... passion for destruction. Angel could pull it off.
Good-bye, Picadilly.
Farewell, Leicester-bloody-Square.
