Godwin, Thanks for replying.2.6.18 is already at rc2 and its release is imminent. 2.6.17 is already at 2.6.17.7, which actually fixed quite a few bugs if the diff is anything to go byOkay. I'm looking at this howto: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=217657Apparently I can go from 2.6.15 to 2.6.17 with Dapper. There seems to be a bit extra to do for nvidia, but they have instructions for that as well. What I'm wondering is, if I go for this upgrade, might I be able to solve my IVTV problems as well. By which I mean, can I "patch" my kernel in such a way that it has IVTV support that wouldn't require me rebuilding it all the time?Actually, maybe what I should be asking is: what is the risk level here? Everyone talks about upgrading the kernel as if it makes things go faster, and gets proper palm support, and everything is better. But these must be experienced Linux users who can handle rough waters.Somebody stop me if this is a really dumb idea. -- Dave M G
