Re: [tlug] Socket error when connecting to MySQL

Josh,

Nothing jumps out at me from reading your email. You need to get in
the habit of making backup copies of your config files whenever you
start making changes, so you always have the option to go back to a
known good configuration.
Sound advice.

In the meantime, is there no way I can blow away MySQL and PHP and just start from scratch?

The thing is that the working configuration was the default configuration when Ubuntu first installed. So if I could just get back to square one, I think I'd be in business.

But every time I try "apt-get remove", or "Completely Uninstall" in Synaptic, and then reinstall, it seems to have kept my most recent, flawed, configuration files.

Is there a reliable way to wipe the applications clean off my hard drive, then re-install fresh copies without fear of past settings lingering?
