Josh, Stephen,Thank you for the instructions. I disconnected and re-connected the printer following Josh's advice. Here is the output of "tail -f /var/log/messages":Apr 16 17:47:48 localhost kernel: [4405240.152000] usb 2-1: USB disconnect, address 5 Apr 16 17:47:48 localhost kernel: [4405240.152000] drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: removed Apr 16 17:55:43 localhost kernel: [4405714.950000] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 6 Apr 16 17:55:43 localhost kernel: [4405715.136000] drivers/usb/class/usblp.c: usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 6 if 0 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x04A9 pid 0x1094Josh said:I'm pretty sure the USB system in my computer is working on a hardware level. I have a couple other devices, such as a Wacom tablet and Kenwood USB sound device which are working fine. And I've even tried moving units around from USB port to USB port. I have 4 in back of the computer and 2 in front. It seems from swapping devices around that the USB ports are working fine. You expressed a worry that the printer problem might be related to the Palm Pilot one, seeing as how they are both USB devices. This is possible. Do you have any working USB devices on the system? Could you borrow a USB mouse from a friend to try out, just to make sure your USB subsystem is working?Josh said:[1] Dave, please make sure to attribute properly so we know who said what when and to whom. ;)Sorry, was I not doing this correctly?I think I mentioned this before, but this is the status of my printer as shown in the CUPS interface:Description: Canon Pixus iP3100 Location: Desktop Make and Model: Canon PIXUS iP3100 Ver.2.50x Printer State: idle, accepting jobs, published. Device URI: file:///dev/usblp0Is that device URI matching my actual /dev file correctly? I'm not sure if all those backslashes are a healthy thing or not.-- Dave M G
