I don't know about Kubuntu LVM support but LVM2 is great.  

Had to tag in here- I'm also a big fan of LVM2. Recently I've been using Centos4, and the way Ive been setting things up is to make a raid 1 mirror of 2 sata HDs, then create a physical volume of the entire raid mirror /dev/md0, then make the volume group and create the logical volumes for each mountpoint. For example creating the logical volume /dev/VolGroupmd0/LogVolHome for /home. Also with these huge SATA hard drives these days, it's easy to leave a lot of room on the physical volume so you can grow filesystems as required. So you get both redundancy with the RAID, and manageability with LVM2. Isn't linux awesome?
