[tlug] Palm/Linux connection woes.

I recently acquired a Palm Z22 and have been trying to sync it to the PC
using J-Pilot as the gooey and pilot-link as the back-end.

The kernel is correctly rigged up with the usb-serial and visor modules, as
evidenced in these logs when I attach the device:

The idea is to set up J-Pilot such that it points to the second tty
created, ttyUSB1 in this case, to click on the hot-sync button in the
interface, upon which you're prompted to tap on the PDA's hot-sync button.
When you do this, the PDA disconnects from ttyUSB[0-1] and reconnects to
ttyUSB[2-3] and J-Pilot starts eating up 100% CPU:

I've spent the past couple of hours googling for a solution but they all go
on about using udev to have a dynamic /dev directory. I don't use udev.

Of course, www.linuxpda.com is veeerrry helpful because the whole domain
throws an HTTP error 403 and most other pages I've found refer to it, to
other broken links, or either copy or refer to the howto on TLDP, which is
about 5 years out of date.

Does anyone here have any further ideas or am I going to have to start
using udev?
