Ssh can handle securely transport the X protocol. When I ssh from an X-window console (such as xterm or konsole) to a remote machine, when I execute on the remote machine: xterm an xterm window for the remote machine pops up on my local X-Window desktop. This capability is native to ssh and can be enabled or disabled in its configuration. I usually don't bother for xterm, but it's very handy for things like browsers and k3b. I haven't tried using it for a window or desktop manager.
