Thanks for all your help earlier.
 
I decided to install mandrake 10.1
I ran through the installation. I was able to repartition the NTFS drive 
and  I got through the rest of the installation process and rebooted the 
computer. but when linux loads it only gets as far as the graphical 
interface. I can move the mouse, but it doesnt continue to load KDE. Are 
there other configuration settings I need to change to get KDE working.
