No flame war :-) but Mandrake's 'urpmi' command makes installing RPMs as easy as picking a bogey! :-) Once you have set up a few software sources just issue the command: urpmi filename it gets installed and all dependencies are taken care of. Issue urpmi --auto-select and your system gets updated with all the latest fixes, etc. Granted, it is best to install a new version rather than try to upgrade to the latest and greatest but that gives me the chance to redo/resize my partitions :-) I was thinking of installing Ubuntu (tried it on my old Thinkpad) but it seemed really slow compared with Mandrake, Redhate's Fedora Core 3 and even the Ubuntu live CD! I also seem to remember not being asked to setup a ROOT password. Oh, and I didn't have to download the 3 CDs for Mandrake, just a boot CD and I did an FTP install. Wayne
