Compared to what? :-p The only (IMO) decent kanji engine for Linux and BSD is Atok X (do they still sell that? I've been away from Japan over a year and a half and I've become really out of touch). I hope it's still available, since using Atok is a pleasure. It's quality is as good as what you get on Win or Mac. It's the only *nix kanji engine I ever used in which I could type my address (Kanagawa-ken Kawasaki-shi Shukugawara) and have it render it correctly the first time. With all the others, I had to pick out each character of Shukugwara indvidually. Atok is neither Free nor free, but once in a blue moon the best solution is a proprietary one.
