It's a choice. Even in Japan, although we try really hard to hide it from the new graduates. :-( If you choose, and choose well, you can get work where they pay you because they want you to play in their sandbox, not somebody else's--- they know you'd show up for work anyway. If money or what it can buy is more important than that to you, then choosing work where they pay you to show up is a valid choice. Some people are lucky, and get both.
