Hey all,
I sympathize with David's problems with power. I sometimes have that problem
in my apartment (30 years old or so). But I wouldn't expect the solution to be
that easy. First you'd have to get the permission of your landlord and I don't
expect that to be easy since it would involve work and expenses probably both
to your building as well as your apartment. Plus there would probably be a
period of power cut to the building even if you get approval.
So I've just learned to not run the air conditioning with the ironing while watching
television. ;-)
Cheers,
-- Michael.

That's terrible! I haven't had any external problems in Shinjuku.
I've had plenty of internal problems, however, because my maximum power
consumption exceeds the limits of the circuit breakers in my apartment.
So, I'm tempted to get a UPS. Does anyone happen to know about how much
it costs to increase the power limits? I'd love to just put in larger
breakers, but I'm not an electrician and I'm afraid safety might require
additional changes (e.g., more outlets, a different meter, etc).
