Total security is a dangerous myth.

One should strive to design one's network in a way that minimises the effect
of the inevitable security flaws that will arise. Insulate, do not make
assumtions of trust... the list is pretty long.

Patching is important, of course, but you must realise that sooner or later,
the kiddies are going to know about a vuln before you do. So be prepared
for that day.
