Re: [tlug] Backup Critical Files

Now we know you are joking. Just for interests sake have you opened a
terminal window and had a look at the file system ? Just cd'd through the
files system, perhaps got curious about what is in /usr/local and ls -la 'd
it ?

give it a try. when you figure you have some idea of what is where and
roughly what it might do then you should consider playing with the drivers.
You can backup critical system files manually make all the changes you want
and if it does not work then at the cmd prompt restore the original files
that were good.

"Playing" with Linux is not much fun unless you are prepared to explore,
research and make mistakes. I doubt that many people on this list have never
made a mistake so big that they didn't have re-install to start again from
scratch and in any event that is part of the fun, slowly building your
environment step by step so that it delivers what you are looking for. Other
people have suggested you drop your current distro do some hardwork now to
get into a red hat or debian or whatever which offer ( particularly in the
case of Redhat ) the option of using a comparatively friendly gui and tool
set whilst you get a feel for the overall system - I think you will benefit
from that advice.
