Umm, the whole context of the thread was "If you're not a gamer,
and want the best 2-D performance and the clearest, sharpest text,
Matrox." Yes, Matrox has long been the poster child for lackluster
(or worse) 3-D performance, but like I said, my old G200 gives clearer,
sharper text display than either my GeForce2-MX or my TNT2.

I think we need a reality check on this next part, though:

>The OpenGL driver for the matrox is crap, some weird coloring shows up

OK, crappy OpenGL driver. I follow you so far.

Yeah, that sounds nasty. Sounds like what some people experience with
the nvidia drivers.

But then:

> I believe it's the matrox hardware at fault, because it only
>happens with 3D intensive stuff

So which is it, a shitty driver or shitty hardware? Matrox has a
(well-deserved) reputation for building top-quality hardware, and
you've already said the OpenGL driver has color problems.

It sounds like a crappy driver shooting you down, unless you've found
some actual evidence to the contrary.

>I'm not bashing Matrox here, just wanted to say that it isn't perfect

Matrox is certainly not perfect, it's probably the slowest 3-D around.
But what it's good at (2-D and clear, sharp text) it's the best at.
