ahh, i set these:

> |en_US ISO-8859-1
> |en_US.UTF-8 UTF-8
> |ja_JP.EUC-JP EUC-JP
> |ja_JP EUC-JP
> |ja_JP.UTF-8 UTF-8

kinput still doesn't work, but the errormessage is gone,
and kterms menues are now in japanese 
(not sure i want that, as i can't actually read it ;-)
