no success :-(
btw. kterm gives me the following everytime i start it:
$ kterm -xim&
[4] 2701
$ Warning: locale not supported by C library, locale unchanged
Couldn't set locale: ja_JP.eucJP,ja_JP.ujis,ja_JP.EUC,japanese.euc,Japanese-EUC,ja,japan

>     ~$ locale

all of these are set to ja_JP.eucJP and 
jless works, and so does xemacs in kterm.
