Can you make a set of boot disks and boot from those. If so do you get the same result?. The reason I ask is that it could be any number of things, inclding CD errors, CD drive errors, IDE problems... However as two CDs are fault, I would guess that the media is ok (you can check by sticking it in your laptop and booting) My personal favourite bookdisks are the slackware ones as they dont hide any information from the user as they boot. I have had this problem before although I dont think it is related, I compiled a kernel using gcc 3.1 and an old version of gas got things wrong. Tim.
