RE: Further horrors of 'ksysv'

is your user's shell listed in /etc/shells? If it's not, FTP will disallow
the connection.

Sorry, I didn't provide much info at all, I was writing in such
haste last night. No, I can't ftp to localhost, either:

	<denismcm@example.com:~>$ ftp localhost
	Connected to localhost.
220 localhost FTP server (Version wu-2.6.0(1) Mon Feb 28
	    10:30:36 EST 2000) ready.
331 Guest login ok, send your complete e-mail address as password.
	530 Login incorrect.
	Login failed.
	ftp> user denismcm
	331 Password required for denismcm.

  Yes, inetd is running.

> It is likely that ksysv turned off a couple of things for you.

Yes, that would seem to be the case. Why, I ever tried this damned
'ksysv' thing is beyond me. I swore off these things when I saw what
a mess 'linuxconf' would always make, breaking all sorts of things by
e.g. arbitrarily resetting the permissions on /dev/ttyS1 so that I
couldn't use my modem and so forth.

Looking on the bright side: I suppose I couldn't ask for a more
secure ftp server, could I? God, what a pain this is. I really
haven't a clue what to tweak to fix 'ftp'. Hope someone else does.

Thanks for thinking about this Tom. Cheers, Dennis
