These are all really, really old versions.  I would suggest trying an
upgrade first.  XFree to 3.3.6[1], glibc to 2.1.3[2], and kernel 2.2.18.

xv is stable code that hasn't been touched in years.  I haven't ever
had a problem with it.

Footnotes: 
[1]  Beware of XFree v4.  It doesn't support as many video cards as
3.3.6 does.  To name one, the Fujitsu, FMV Biblo notebook isn't
supported in v4.

[2]   Glibc-2.1.3 has some serious bugs in it, so grab someone's
patched SRPM.  Blindly upgrading to 2.2 will probably break your
system unless you really know what you're doing.
