Have your sendmail rewrite the outbound Scott> headers to appear as 'steve@example.com' or something. That fixes mail, not the DNS problem. Steve Baur came up with what is probably the right answer, the SOA serial is out of synch. This could be a problem for more than just me, since we're converting the Mac/PC crowd to DHCP in order to free up IPs for servers that need permanent DNS records. (My record got erased by accident, its IP was in the low 64 on that subnet.) Those people would also be hosed; it just so happens that somebody with half a clue got screwed first, in a way that left a clear pointer at the DNS. Good luck, that, although not for me. Scott> hey, wait, how did you get an @example.com address?? Scott> neat. I've been studying the Dark Side of network security. Buwhahaha! Seriously, just how unique do you think the name "Steve" is? (Hint, there were 5 Steves and a Stephanie in my 6th grade class of 29.) Scott> Anyway, the remote systems want to see an MX record for the Scott> sender domain, I'm pretty sure. Or at least an SOA for it, Scott> I think. They don't need an MX, I've successfully sent from boxes I know don't have MX records. -- University of Tsukuba Tennodai 1-1-1 Tsukuba 305-8573 JAPAN Institute of Policy and Planning Sciences Tel/fax: +81 (298) 53-5091 _________________ _________________ _________________ _________________ What are those straight lines for?
