Selva said the other day that this problem seems to be fixed, but I sent a 
message a few hours ago and I still did not get it. The other day I sent one and 
never got it in my mailbox, but I saw that it is in the archive...? 

Anyway, I found the solution to my previous post about runlevels in case it 
should ever turn up. 

And I was so desparate with all these debian install problems that I installed 
Windows again on one harddisc, just to check how it compares to the Debian 
installation, whether I am doing something wrong or whether I damaged the 
hardware when I carried the computer from one table to the next. 

With Windows the cdrom is working again. But there is a problem with the 
colordisplay on linux as well as on Windows. It has turned monochrome, only  
this "Starting Windows" color picture during startup appears in color, then the 
screen turns monochrome. Also the Dabian install discs never showed something in 
color, but I did not think it was important, but now I wonder
