tlug: how to change the runlevel?

I obviously made a mistake when configuring XF86Config, the screen shows just 
garbage. But unfortunately the machine seems now to start up in this runlevel 
per default and I don't know how I can get back to a console to fix this ... Can 
somebody give me a hint?
