says you should config the low-level driver to ESS Technology's ES1969
Solo-1 Audiodrive. It will recognize the card, but won't produce any
sound! (apparently only the comercial OSS sound driver works well with
this card)

I suggest you try ALSA instead of OSS (http://www.alsa-project.org)
The ES1969 Solo-1 is listed in the supported sound cards table:
