Amazing what more details can do. Yep, I have seen this one before,
with TurboLinux 2.0j, and a SB AWE 64. I don't know the exact cause,
but I figured out a 'fix' for my case.

I get those errors whenever my sound card is initialized by isapnp.
Since
I don't have any other PNP ISA cards, my quick fix (once I found the
problem) was to add a line at the top of /etc/isapnp.conf (which is a
symlink to somewhere else, but not important). As the first line, I
have
forced-err
which, believe it or not, gives isapnp an err when it runs on boot-up,
causing it to give up trying to initialize my sound card. Then
everything
works fine. (A fix by breaking something, ain't it great!)

I could have just disabled isapnp in the rc.d/rc... file, but I figured
later either I'd forget, or someday someone would fix it. (Maybe now,
Scott?)
