Oh, oh.....do you always run "depmod -a" when booting up. This is
the utlity that creates the
"/lib/modules/<kernel_version>/modules.dep" file. You can also
run it from the command line. This should fix this problem.

THAT certainly not. It just says that automatic chain loading
using modprobe or the kerneld doesn't work if a module to be
loaded requires another one to be loaded beforehands.

Obvious. Apparently the library makeup differs between RH and
PHT. Enter the directory "/usr/src/linux/scripts/lxdialog" and
do a "make clean all". That should fix it.

More to the point: because chain loading doesn't work.

Actually, this is the BIG problem of RH: it is full of little
modifications and configuration bugs that make it run in
principle, but with those little nasty surprises constantly
popping up. This is why I stick to Slackware: this sure is not
the most advanced distribution, but it has extremely few bugs
and thus causes the least trouble in everyday use.
