Actually, Yaesu is *not* a japanese name. It is a dutch name
that got badly mangled over the centuries. It is the name of the
pilot of a dutch ship that stranded at the coast of Honshu.
After that, the survivors of the crew lived in Japan for a long
time. Some went back home, others decided to stay in Japan,
among them the pilot.

The whole story happened at the beginning of the Edo age and was
the basis for the book and the movie "Shogun" ( in which the
story got very much mangled - the real story wasn't violent at
all ).

The story was told in full in our german ham radio magazine
"CQ DL". As soon as I manage to dig it up I can give more
details.

Maybe this explains why the name "yaesu" doesn't have any
perceptible meaning that could be guessed from the Kanji
writing.....
