Java applets VS JavaScript

Hi all,

This is one of those, "I'm just curious...." questions.

Which is preferable from an ISP's point of view, Java applets or JavaScript?
Using a scrolling text example (applet: http://www.twics.com/~tlug Script:
http://www.harenet.or.jp/personal/schweiz/yumi.htm) which do you prefer?

(A 'web Luddite' might suggest that since not *all* browsers support Java
neither should be used.)

Along the same lines is it better to use a client side imagemap or a server
side imagemap?

A penny for your thoughts....

Jim S.
